Ode to a young gentleman

His heart was young and mind was wise.

His humor always present.

His thoughts were grand and eyes were wide

His passion was contagious.

He was excited, scared, but ready for the world.

He was so young, he had so much more to do.

His perspective left you wondering

His voice it sang so often

His father’s words inside him

His loyal few he loved them.

His life was precious, of that he was aware

His impact was felt in the rarest and strongest of ways

His friends they stayed beside him

His heart and girl were saddened but both filled with unrelenting love

His time had come, goddamn… his time had come.

He was excited, scared, but ready for anything.

He was so young, he had so much more to do.

  1. Always more to do – no matter how old you are! Sad and poignant poem – is it based on something specific. Thanks for the follow and happy new year 🙂

    1. thank you Lynn that means a lot , absolutely! Good question- not directly based on a particular person but I suppose maybe a hybrid of fiction/nonfiction haha- certainly draw heavily in writing on things I’ve experienced, heard, and witnessed in my own life

      1. There’s always something we can use, isn’t there? Even if it’s not an incident we experienced. more the way we felt in a particular situation. Great stuff. Happy writing
